SPU – 2015 Summer Fellowship

Justin Lavigueure,  Mechanical Engineering at Seattle Pacific University, researched Vocational Adaptions for 3D-Printed Prosthetics.  Given the limits of all current 3d printed mechanical hands, the team defined a matrix of Design Considerations (pdf).  This lead to an Attachment Prototype:

adapter

  • Able to equip tool attachments with slide lock
  • Attaches to Raptor Reloaded and Phoenix designs
  • Fits right/left hands
  • Hexagonal attachment allows for variable tool positioning
  • Freshman 3D printing class will create new attachments

adaptersThe final design for the attachment device was subsequently used as the basis for one of the three challenges in the Hackathon at Autodesk University in December 2015.
