Rice – 2015 Summer Fellowship

The 2015 fellowship student, Akhil Surapaneni, worked with researchers Jordan Miller and Anderson Ta on several design challenges presented by Dr. Gloria Gogola, orthopedic hand surgeon at Shriners Hospital.  In order of priority:

  1. implement natural wrist tenodesis in the hand prosthetics
  2. develop an opposable thumb design
  3. develop a prosthetic that would make it easier to hold onto objects, because many of her patients have trouble holding onto objects for a long period of time
  4. investigate the problem of partial fingers
